FIREHOUSE MARKET TO OPEN SATURDAY

Sustainable Foods for Siouxland is relocating and expanding its food market into the 1211 Fifth Street building formerly occupied by Fiona’s Firehouse Bistro. The market will be renamed the Firehouse Market to reflect the restored building’s history as a former fire station.

“As Sustainable Foods for Siouxland moved forward with its mission to promote a value added local food system, we discovered the demand for a wider variety of local, organic, fair trade, healthy and unique market items to be much larger than what we could meet at our market on Fifth and Floyd Boulevard. So we could better meet that demand, we decided to shift our focus away from the restaurant operation towards the expansion of our food market,” said Pat Garrity, Manager of the Firehouse Market.

According to Di Gray, Firehouse Food Market board member, the new market will be open to the public to shop, with an opportunity for people to buy coop memberships. Coop memberships will be $25 and will allow members to receive newsletters and invitations to special Firehouse Food Market events and take advantage of bulk discounts, members only coupons and other special discounts.

“Shelves, refrigeration units, and products are arriving every day and we are pleased that we are going to be able to open the market this Saturday at 9:00 a.m. We are very excited about this project and think it not only be a good thing for the local food system but will also provide our community with a unique shopping experience,” concluded Gray.
